Martian A8 Core i7 FHD Notebook: Portability on Steroids

Martian A8 is a portable, yet powerful notebook that offers portability without compromising on features and stability. Equipped with a capable Core i7 processor, it’s able to perform smoothly no matter what you throw at it. The Full HD 13.3 display produces crisp, sharp and vivid images and offers something other manufacturers don’t in this price range. Specifications aren’t the only thing that sets A8 apart from the competition as it also features an attractive and sturdy design able to take daily abuses.

Martian A8- Overview

Martian A8 is designed for road warriors that demand portability and performance. The Core i7 processor coupled with Intel HD Graphics and a Full HD display means all your multimedia content will appear as good as it gets. It’s built to perform like a standard notebook and carried like a netbook. Although people may not be well aware of the brand ‘Martian’, it manages to come up with quite a performer and looker. Let’s go through the specifications before digging deeper to find out if A8 is a better alternative to notebooks with same specs that cost much more.

Design and Build Quality

Design of the notebook is certainly inspired by Apple MacBook Air series, which isn’t a bad thing considering it offers good looks and robustness. The A8 boasts a robust and sturdy magnesium-aluminum alloy back and its silver-colored finishing makes the notebook quite a looker. However, the burning skull logo may not be according to everybody’s taste and there isn’t much we can do about it. On notebook’s right side is a mini HDMI port, SD Card slot, a USB 3.0 and an Ethernet port. The left side houses a USB 2.0 port, a microphone and 3.5 mm headphone jack and a DC jack.

Camera

The front facing 1.3MP camera located at top of the display is just OK for video calls under the right lighting conditions. If you are serious about video calling then you may need to consider an external, more capable camera. Weighing just under 1.5 KG, A8 is very easy to carry and an excellent choice for frequent travelers. The keyboard also provides a nice typing experience as the keys are well spaced and provide a good response. The touch pad also provides ample space, but the integrated buttons isn’t something everybody likes. Overall, both the keyboard and touchpad work well and help get things done without any problems, but separate click buttons is something Martian should have considered.

Performance and Display

Excellent performance and display are the two areas where A8 really shines and is powered by a capable Core i7 processor, Intel HD Graphics 620 and Full HD IPS display. The Intel processor delivers great performance and offers plenty of graphic power to let users play most of the games, but at relatively lower settings. 8GB RAM and 128 GB SSD further sweeten the deal and ensure an excellent multitasking experience. The Full HD display produces sharp and retina-grade images and is great for watching movies, playing games, browsing the internet and more. The viewing angles are also great and the display performs well in almost all lighting environments, thanks to its non-reflective surface.

Battery Life

The company claims that notebook’s battery is able to last up to 6 hours while watching videos, but under other usage scenarios like working on a document, the battery should last for a full work day. However, you can get even more time out of it after adjusting settings of brightness, performance and network radios.

Conclusion

When considering Martian A8, it’s worth remembering that it’s a proper notebook powered by a Core i7 processor and comes with a Full HD display and SSD drive. Although A8 isn’t the best or most portable notebook around, it’s hard to recommend ‘proper’ notebooks with a full HD display and powerful internals in this price range.
