MAZE Alpha X is an upgrade version of Alpha which has been released in late November 2017. The MAZE Alpha X actually resembles the MAZE Alpha quite a bit, though they’re not identical, and this phone comes with a different set of specs. If you’re looking for a trending smartphone with premium features but at an affordable cost, the Alpha X might be a sound choice.

The MAZE Alpha X is built in a plastic rear cover and metal frame. The front panel is mainly occupied by the screen with an tri-bezel-less design. The Alpha X still retains a slightly big bottom bezel. The physical home button with built-in fingerprint sensor and front camera are placed at the bottom bezel. Take a close look at the phone, the speaker and notification light are located at the top bezel. The rear of the Alpha X is a glossy back panel with anti-fingerprint depositing. The rear camera with LED flash is placed at the upper left corner of rear panel.

As most of the trending smartphones, the power and volume control buttons are placed at the right-hand side of the phone while the SIM/SD card slot is placed at the left. The Alpha X has a 3.5mm earphone jack at the top edge and a USB port at the bottom edge. Both side of the USB port are the speaker grilles.

The Alpha X is equipped with a 6-inch 18:9 IPS LCD display with FullHD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels, 402 ppi) which reaches a screen-to-body ratio of 89.6%. The screen is from LG and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass with 2.5D effect and almost edge to edge. But the display quality of this device is not the best in class. Colors are vibrant and provides immersive multimedia experience but visibility under sunlight is not that good.

Hardware & OS

As for hardware, the Alpha X is powered by MediaTek Helio P25 chipset with ARM Mali-T880 MP2 GPU. This provides great performance to easily handle demanding apps and games. Thus, you can enjoy watching videos, playing intensive games with the Alpha X without worry of performance. The Alpha X comes in two variants 64GB/128GB storage both using 6GB LPDDR4X RAM. Besides, storage can be expanded up-to 256GB with a MicroSD card. The 6GB RAM and enough storage makes multi-tasking much easy and allows more apps to stay in the memory for better multi-tasking.

The MAZE Alpha X is running on a near-stock version of Android 7.0 Nougat out of box which make the Maze Alpha X a breeze to use.

The camera setup of the MAZE Alpha X is a bit disappointed. It doesn’t come with a dual rear camera as most of the trending smartphones. The rear camera of the Alpha X is a 16MP camera with Sony IMX258 sensor and the front camera is a 8.0MP front camera with Sony IMX219 sensor. This setup is basic in today’s smartphones. It can satisfy most demands of photography and video shooting, but the image quality in low light condition is not good as expected.

MAZE Alpha X

Considering the battery life, the battery capacity of the Alpha X is 3900 mAh. With moderate usage it can easily last 1.5 days. Fast charging comes to the rescue in case you ran out of juice as it supports MediaTek’s own Pump Express fast-charging solution.
